Frequently Asked Questions

South Pacific Sailing School caters for complete novices right through to experienced mariners. Many courses have minimum seatime requirements and some require you to have completed courses before starting. Check out the assumed experience on the Course Details information or call our staff for more advice on what course best suits your needs.

Will my qualifications be officially recognized?
South Pacific Sailing School is accredited with the RYA, therefore your qualifications will be acknowledged by the NZ marine industry and by many International Sailing Organizations.

Do I receive a certificate?
Every Student receives a Certificate upon successful completion of each course. These certificates detail the competency achieved and are often required as proof for enrolling in courses that have pre requisites attached.

What do I need to bring?
Our Sailing Schools in Auckland and the Bay of Islands means your learning in one of the world's best cruising grounds. And because we offer courses year round you will need to be aware of the weather conditions. In the summer months don't forget to bring sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and clothes to cover up, along with your togs! In the winter months ensure you have appropriate clothes to protect you against the cooler breezes. You will also need to buy and read up on your chosen courses notes and bring with you your RYA Log Book.

What's Included in the course fee?
All meals cooked onboard. Some courses may have an evening ashore which students will need to pay for. Accommodation onboard the vessel. Linen - (In winter please bring a sleeping bag for the cooler nights). Certificate on completion of course (except the COC).

Your Yacht inventory includes:

  • Full Navigation Equipment
  • GPS VHF Radio
  • Lifejackets, Reefing mainsail
  • Safety Harnesses, Anchors with chain and warp
  • Hot water
  • First Aid, Kit Mooring lines and fenders
  • Lifebuoy, Flares, fire extinguishers, Main and hand bearing compass
  • Torch, Charts, parallel rule, dividers, pencils, erasers
  • Life raft, Binoculars
  • Depth Log, Echo sounder Fridge
